The short story "The Test" by Lucy Williams deals with a youngster who helps voluntarily a old woma n .The youngster has to undergo by herself how somebody tests her personality and forthrightness.
Ater school the youngster is taken to the old woma n, Mrs Hantox. It takes a lot of time to open the door as the youngster stands in front of the door. Mrs Hancox wants to be sure that she doesn`t let somebody wrong into the house. After Mrs Hancox has invited the youngster in, she doesn`t feel well at first. But as they go to the kitchen the youngster feels well .It looks comfortable. Mrs Hancox offers the youngster a cup of tea. The tea is cold and it tastes of salt As Mrs Hancox asks if it tastes good the youngster gets angry and shouts but Mrs Hancox calms the youngster and regulates the situation by explaining that this trick is a test to know if the person is truthful.
