short story ’’My True Kinsman’’ deals with the relationship between Tom Burke, his two sisters, their parents and their grandfather. Mother takes every care to keep the children apart from their grandfather. His mother is a very religious and strict person, and she never allows them to visit their grandfather. The children only see him on the way to church. Mother does not like grandfather because when his first wife died, he married a 45 -year-old flighty woman. When his second wife died too he becomes a drinker and only leaves his house to go to pubs and has many troubles with the police. On Tom’s tenth birthday his mother falls down the steps when she is tying a piece of string with an apple at the other end of it to the drawing-room ceiling. She cuts her forehead on the brass fender and gets long and deep wound. When Tom enters the room, his mother gives him money to buy iodine. So he goes the first time alone to the village and suddenly he meets his grandfather. He takes the opportunity and talks to Tom.
At first Tom is too afraid to listen, but after a while he asks question and begins to talk with the old man. Now he is very happy because his grandfather is a very good storyteller. He has a story for all houses in the village Mullaghduff. After a time they go to a pub to drink something but the grandfather does not have any money to pay for the drinks. So Tom gives him the money which he has got from his mother to buy iodine. When they leave the pub the grandfather tells Tom that he is a great boy and his true kinsman. So Tom leaves his grandfather and returns home without iodine and money, but with a new kinsman, his true kinsman

    Deshalb hier meine Koprrekturen:

    Plädoyer
    Hi
